Well , I am going to explain a little hifi equipment that I have (sorry but my english its bad...i said it in the "introducing fórum")
  • turntable, its a "homemade" with a lenco leg and a LAD motor.
  • i have an hibrid amplifier, luxman lv 105
  • and 4 speakers jbl, 4412a and l16 decade
now i have a luxman lv 117 to try and see if I like it more than mine, but i need a preamplifier (i dont know if this is the Word in english, in spanish its "previo") because i hear only vinyls.

so the questions are:

  • have you compare ever this amplifiers? 107-117, i have read something about this but it was the R117 not the LV117, i dont know what are differences.
  • and, if you have a LV117..what phono preamplifier MM do you have with it? or "previo de phono MM" in spanish.
  • a tube preamplifier? a solid one? must have synergy with my speakers...i think...

sorry for my english...and thanks

The lv 117 is an integrated rated at 110 watts a channel and the r117 is a receiver 160 watts a side.

ok, thanks, yes just now i have read this, more wats and R its a receiver.

apart from that I do not know if the things said in the comparison between the R177 and 107 lv can be applied to lv117

If you can read schematics, you can get the service manual for the LV on HiFiEngine, must sign in. Compare that to the schematic for the R-117 to see if the amps are similar. The R-117 is a very well liked receiver for sound quality.

Interesting that the LV does not have a phono input. So yes, you will need a phono preamplifier. Many available, tube and solid state, cheap to expensive, many specific to particular parts of the world. For a couple hundred €, the Vincent, Musical Fidelity, NAD and others. Cheap, Audio Technica for about 50€, I guess. Really good and versatile, the Musical Surroundings Phonomena is liked as is the II version. So many choices.

yes, i will do it...compare R and LV, this is for curiosity.

and i have two options of phono preamplifier to get started, apart internet, for muy LV, a project 50€ (i dont know now the model), and a Cambridge 640P, 110€.

i think i ll start with one of this and then i ll look in internet a tube preamplifier.

Almost any Luxman amp will be an upgrade to the LV103/105/107 models. Those things are creations of marketing hype only, and not really suitable for hi-fi.

yes? do you think so? i dont know.

i know my lv105 sounds well but perhaps its not enough 70w to my jbl 4412a with 150w.

especially when the volume is low ... I have neighbors XD

and the issue of hybrid amplifiers would take too long to discuss .
from my experience I know tube preamplifier phono of LV 105 influences the sound, because I changed the original valves by others ( Harmonix ) and the sound changed a lot.

Generally the silver (Champagne?) faced stuff sounds better than the newer black faced Luxman stuff. he Luxman separates of late 70s early 80s vintage sound great. My M12 power amp sounds great!
