I would quit messing with it, explain what happened to your friend, and take your lumps. If your friend is a reasonable person, he will understand.
This group diagnostics over the internet by amatuers totally unfamiliar with his setup is obviously going nowhere. Rotel AV receivers are complicated, more so than most IMO, and the more you fiddle, the more you work you may cause him.

Well, we are only trying to assist where we can. What's wrong with doing that ? He came here for help and we are trying to do just that.
No one here so far professes to be A Rotel Pro. Are you one ? Seems we've struck a nerve with you somehow.
I agree 100%. OP reaching out to AK is a good option. Being forthright and honest with owner is the superior option. Some nice gear there, who knows, maybe owner is a AK member, and he stumbles upon this thread down the road??I would quit messing with it, explain what happened to your friend, and take your lumps. This worked for getting the control amp back to normal. THANK YOU! Still quiet but the PHONO/CD combo is no more!Ok here we go
1) Power off the units main power
2) Press and hold, Speaker B, Tune/Preset and Mono front panel buttons simultaneously, and power the unit on.
3) When properly reset, the unit should power on to the tuner input at FM frequency 87.5
Which B&W's are those?
