Hi-Rez Blu-Ray Audio 24/192 into Analog 2 Ch?

I thought this wasn't possible but now I'm not so sure. You can get 24/192 audio from the blu-ray's analogue outs into your 2 channel amp but what if you use a high end dac? 24/192 will NOT be output from your blu-ray's optical/coax out. It will be from HDMI but no dacs have HDMI inputs that I know of so I thought a high end outboard dac could be of no use with blu-ray.

Well do a google search on this company - allaboutadapters - and look up audio products. They sell HDMI converter boxes which go between your dac and blu-ray player. You connect your blu-ray HDMI output to the HDMI input on the converter box. You then connect either coax or toslink from the converter box to your dac and voila - your 2 channel analog system is now HDMI compatible. But I wonder if the full res 24/192 makes it to your dac?

This seems like a wonder product to me but I'm wondering if it's too good to be true! Can/does this work? Has anyone heard or tried these boxes? I'd be interested to know your opinion.

All HDMI is is DVI with audio and a copy protection check (think Macrovision but in a digital way). The player talks with the device at the other end of the cable and if the device talks back and says everything is A-OK (you need to buy a license and such from Sony or something to be able to do this not exactly sure) then the player sends out the digital signal (video as whatever that is and then audio as PCM if I remember right). All the box is doing is telling the player a "secure" device is connected and passing the digital signal on. :thmbsp:

I hope this isn't 'hijacking' the thread, but am I right in thinking HDMI does not use any form of encryption? Meaning you could pick off the data stream from the HDMI cable once the player and TV have negotiated the licensing issue, and process that data any way you want. (Ok it IS quite a horrendous bitrate and needs some talent to process)

From what I can gather on how it works, yes that should be correct. Remember, you can get a DVI to HDMI plug for your computer and plug it into any HDMI port, so as far as I can tell they are the same.

Thanks jaygee!!!!

Please post your thoughts on this when you try it out. I've ordered the same product as you and I'm hoping the full 24/192 makes it to my dac!
