Hi there.

My name is Randy and I am inheriting my families stereo system. It's an old Olson RA-290 and a Dual 1219 or 1229 (I'm not 100% sure of the model number). I am also getting 2 Fisher XP 7s speakers and 2 Fisher XP 56s speakers.
These units are 54 or 55 years old and I'm probably going to have some questions on safely bringing them back to life. I know that they have not been stored that well for at least 2 or 3 decades. I have a feeler out to a friend who I think has a variac so I can bring hem up on power slowly. I know at the very least the caps need to be checked before use.
Is there any documentation out there on this receiver? I have looks and have not been able to find anything.

Thanks,
Randy

Welcome to the AK Crew.

Did a short look-see
at this product, finding it
to be an entry-type reciever,
and the company having
a kinda "shady" past
with some questionable
actions.
So, personally, I wouldn't
spend a lot on this unit,
moving on with some
better known brands.

As per, asking for
"documentations"
you're not the first
trying to get this input.

Take/bide your time,
getting familiar with
prices ranges and
viable receivers,
speakers and TT's.

This has a ton of sentimental value for me and I know it sounded good when I was a kid. I'm good with a soldering iron and have recapped a couple CB radios, so I'm ok with doing that work myself. My only issue would be the alignment. That's why I am looking for any documentation that I can find.

Found several others were in a similar dilemma as you, not finding any paper-work on this product. And I respect your "tie-in" with memories, but it is what it is, as far as what the "innards" are.

And with your already "audio background", maybe do a Search (upper rt corner of this screen) or ask in the appropriate forum, and you might get lucky with some who might have had had this brand before.

"Olson" was later taken over by a "Tele..." something make; a bigger firm, so you may want to take a look-see on this, finding some related manuals/docu's.

Good luck on your quest, eh?

that’s a really cool family system to inherit!:rflmao:
i’d definitely avoid powering it up before checking the capacitors and other components, especially after so many years in storage. hope you find the original documentation and get it all playing again!)
