Hello everyone, I'm ale! (pronounced AH-leh, not the beer)
Hailing from Dominican Republic, I've been screwing around with electronics for as long as I can remember, mostly due to my own clumsiness and my parents having a pretty strict "you break it, you buy it" policy when it came to the stuff I had, leading me down the lifelong rabbit hole of repairing, replacing, refurbishing, recycling and just about any other word starting with "re-". For the most part, I've only really had experience with CRT televisions and game consoles--my ps4 (broken hdmi port), ps2 (faulty power supply), psp (cracked lcd, bricked firmware), 360 (shorted 5v rail), snes (no video through multi out), genesis (noisy video), wii (battered disk drive) and n64 (literally just a dirty cartridge slot) all being repairs I've done-- but two months ago I've plunged headfirst into audio through a facebook marketplace listing of a beaten up Harman/Kardon HK580i for ~$30 USD in my local currency which I would later find out may have been a mistake.
For the last two months I've been banging rocks together figuring out how to troubleshoot and service vintage receivers, but in the background I've broadened my familiarity with audio and started a little collection of equipment for my listening pleasure (an Onkyo DX-C390, a pair of Mission model 70s and Audio-Technica ATH-M50Xs, the numerous walkmans I've repaired and the victrola briefcase turntable I received as a gift that started it all*). Stereos and physical music--whether it be CDs, vinyl, cassette, ****ing minidisc for the 4 minidisc collectors--have given me a newfound appreciation for an art medium I loved due to the added friction that comes with losing modern conveniences and sensibilities resulting in more intentional, conscious listening and digesting music as art rather than just background noise. I'm 17 so I'm pretty much a toddler in a ~20 year forum, but I can't wait to dive even deeper into this newfound passion and hopefully learn a thing or two more about the wonderful (and expensive) world of audio.

- metalhead and budding jazz enthusiast
- huge fighting game and arcade fan (mostly classic capcom and snk stuff)
- I'm better with english than spanish some reason even though spanish is my first language and I live in a spanish speaking country
- can beat diablo II in 7 hours (baal, normal difficulty)
- up-and-coming electrical engineering major
- awful at chess (like spectaularly bad, a toaster could beat me)
- can name the first 151 kanto pokemon in 20 minutes
- uses linux
