Hickok 533 tube tester

To Hickok tube tester owners. I just bought a Hickok 533 local without manual and tube chart. My question is 533 and 533A can use interchangeable manuals and tube chart? Also any advice for me to do before to put it in service.

Thanks in advance for all of your input!

As far as I know, the 533 and the 533A are completely different. I did have the 533 chart pdf but now I can't locate it. It was hard to find but I did find it online somewhere.

Hiya,

Some 533's don't have a 9 pin mini socket .. does yours ???

my 533 has a 9 pin socket and a window behind each selector instead of numbers all around. My older type is a pain in the neck. but it works and was not expensive.

Check www.vacuumtubes.com/manuals.html
This is SND Tube Sales, and they list a copy of the 533 manual AND the roll chart in book form "with a few updates."
I have dealt with them, getting manuals for my Triplett 3444 and 3444A testers. Easy to deal with and the copies come nicely bound. Their prices are reasonable (usually $15 per manual, plus shipping).

I've had a 533 for awhile, unfortunately it's hundreds of miles away at present so I can't help you with settings.

But to answer your other question, there are usually a couple of capacitors in a Hickok that need to be replaced. Other than that, not much goes wrong. They have 2 tubes in them, which you might want to test if you have another tester.

I will looking to replace the old caps. and test the tubes in it. Now I need to search for the calibration procedure. Thanks Toxcrusadr!
