Hideki Matsui Is Going to the Angels

Hideki Matsui and the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a
one-year contract, ending Matsui's seven-year run with the
Yankees that culminated in a World Series Most Valuable
Player award last month.

(From the NY Times)

Sorry to see him go. He was a class act and a great Yankee.

i really thought they'd keep him for another year on the back of his ws performance, which was one for the books imo, definitely bummed to see him go as well.

He flat out can't play the OF any more, and Girardi wants to use the DH
spot as a rotating rest spot for A-Rod, Jeter, Posada and Tex. In 2 years
Posada probably won't be much of a catcher any more, and Jeter will in all
probability be coming to the end of his SS days. Makes sense if you don't
become sentimental about it.

i played baseball in college, i understand the game very well. i'm surprised because the yankees are known to be sentimental, at least in the past anyway.

He was a very good Yankee and a solid outfielder but it was time for both to move on. Best wishes to him, as long as the two teams don't meet (again!) in the post-season.

Not necessarily so. Off the top of my head players who have come to
unceremonious ends include: Mel Stottlemyre, Willie Randolph, Reggie,
Phil Rizzuto, Yogi in his 2nd managerial term, David Cone, and the great
Babe himself. It's always been about the Benjamins, but if you don't make a fuss, you'll get a day or a job in the broadcast booth. BTW
I'm a HUGE Yankee fan and have been since 1961. I just try to keep
some perspective.
