I had to go and watch Snatch Wars to make it all better.

To get back on topic a bit - Traveling back in time in my mind to the many years I attended the Los Angeles Hi-Fi Show at the old Ambassador Hotel I recall that it was not an event one attended with the intent of meeting women but I have no explanation as to the phenomenon of audio being primarily a male dominated avocation. I did see Linda Ronstadt once in the high end listening room of Federated Electronics in West L.A. though so if some women were into audio back then I'm glad one of them was Linda Ronstadt.

I have never really understood why more women don't get into HiFi or have a nice musical reproduction setup. Music is a universal thing and both men and women alike enjoy it and can appreciate good sound, so why more women are not into it is beyond me. My wife for example loves her Kef 104/2s, and I suspect a large part of it has to do with the appearance of the speakers. She looks at them like pieces of furniture that put out beautiful music.

Another example is a friend of mine, his mom is big into drama. She absolutely loves music and told my friend that when he moved out of her place, he has to leave behind the Wharfedale W60s because of how beautiful they sound.

Maybe marketing has a big role to play in this as well as the overall design of the audio gear. Seems to me that it's made to look more appealing to men, however I think many years ago when audio gear was made to look like furniture there were more women buying nice stereos. Just a theory but, I imagine the visual appeal is a large part of it.

I obsess over home decor, usually to prevent house plants from residing on my speakers.

My point was guys and girls is the audio industry pushing male dominance in the market place, they do after all control the market.

Would audio products aimed at the female market be a niche industry?

I would hold that buyers control the market and industry chases the buyers. I was watching one of those pseudo informative shows on history channel and it explained how women hear differently than men. Something to do with infant noise as I remember. Maybe this explains the lack of female audio enthusiasts, they listen and hear differently than males.
