HifiEngine deletes corrective comment??

Yesterday I noticed on the HifiEngine.com website that the power output for the Nakamichi PA-5 listing was wrong. In the brochure, which is actually downloadable from HifiEngine itself, it clearly states 2 x 150W @ 8 ohms.

So I figured I would help out by commenting on this. And so I did.

Well, and today the comment is deleted and it still says 2 x 100W @ 8 ohms.

What a strange behavior... what do you think?
Has anybody ever tried to correct something on HifiEngine?

Sorry, but that seems like your fault - there's the initial version and the more powerful version II. If you click on the little button "5 II", the specs change accordingly - which I'd guess you've missed...

Well, it is a bit confusing. I looked at the brochure for the PA-5 again, and the 150 Watts appears to be the "Dynamic Output Power" as opposed to the "Continuous Average-Output Power", which is 100 Watts.

So I assume the standard is to use the "Continuous Average-Output Power" spec then.

Nevertheless, it would have been nice to clarify that in a comment as opposed to delete my comment without any explanation.

I have a PA-5 and it clearly states that the amplifier is rated for 100 W + 100 W on the front of the unit itself. The PA-5II is rated for 150 W continuous (that comes at the cost of lesser sound quality and a bit of a departure from the original Pass design or so I've read). The standard is to use the continuous (continuous = RMS = average) and usually for 8 ohms. Dynamic can usually only be used in short bursts and is therefore not used because long term the amplifier usually won't be able to produce that power at that impendence. Even companies that fudge their amplifier ratings a bit don't use the dynamic output as the rating they publish.

I don't know why they didn't offer an explanation - perhaps because it was blatantly wrong. You're still learning, so no worries in my book. And bonus points for having an interest in that amplifier and Nakamichi.

Well this is embarrassing, it really does say that on the front. I own one, too.
All this literature on the PA-5, PA-5E, PA-5II confused me. I apologize.

No worries. It's easy to get confused since they're different versions of the same model.

Surely it would - but I wouldn't read much into that. JaS is running VE and HFE pretty much alone, as far as I'm aware, and I'd assume him to have a family and a job to care for, too - so I'd assume him to be rather busy most of the time...

Oh, and I don't think you need to apologise...

Plus I believe that he is a member of the AK family as well.

SPLdb: Yup, he's also been an AK member for 14 years now, but doesn't really post a lot here (current post count: 349).
