About where are you located RDKA? I am about an hr west of Charlotte.

This is my son's system.

Me, I've had 4.5's for 32 years. Traded in khorns and $2k for them in 81. Previous owner was trying to drive them with a receiver. I already had an audio research amp and pre-amp, so I just had to buy a midrange amp to bi-amp them.

So I was looking for big infinities for him since I am a big infinity believer and he has grown up on them himself. so that did not take much arm twisting. But like most folks, he wanted the speakers first. Pieced his stuff together over the course of the last 4 or 5 months.

I'm still thinking they'll sing better with monos or Threshold. Or better yet would be a nice tube for the top end. It's my opinion you pull out more sounds as you go up the chain with this brand of speaker. And playing them already, I can tell they have that big infinity characteristic of extracting.

They are a pretty good bargain out there right now. How loud did you yell at him when you told you he forgot them?

Speaking of that Son of Ampzilla, I just had those things cranked. I do mean cranked. And I was playing Capt. Beefheart doing Electricity and he blew out a telefunken microphone recording it with that great powerful voice.


Very very tough application and those meters were buried. But it did it & I think a lot of amps aren't handling that song at those volumes.

Watkins. seller underplayed and understated them. He was told a long time ago when he got them, that they had been swapped. They were not, just sent in for re-coning.
