I have a 2275 that is stuck in protection. The right channel is stable with 6 mv at the speaker terminals.The left channel read 50 mv and dropped to 25 after warming up, then the protection related kicked in. Now the relay is back in protection and if I manually engage the relay, it reads 42 volts! at the speaker terminals What would cause this? I disconnected the left amp and the relay engages as it should.

As above, typically outputs or drivers however in this case, because of the slightly lower voltage H711 or H712.
Important that you note the +/- sign on all voltage measurements.
Rather than manually engaging(??) the relay you should be reading the voltage at the L-OUT (middle) pin of connector J709.
Suggest start by diode testing H001,2 H711,2,3,4, unit powered off/unplugged, try in circuit first.

I found H701 was shorted. I replaced both H701 and H702 with C1845s. Upon testing, one of these or both get very warm quickly. I replaced the outputs with these.

H701,2 getting hot is a little odd, perhaps you have a failed zener H715,6.
Suggest a basic health check, maybe something will pop up.
