HINT 6 + REL 7/5X high pass/low pass options

My RCA cable arrives in two days. That's the cable that, along with the features on the HINT 6, will allow me to high pass to the mains and low pass to the REL. The mains at the point would be relieved of all lows below X. The way the REL folks suggest to do it is to use the REL supplied cables and send the full range to both the REL and to the mains. I will test it both ways. Anyone done this? What were the results?

I have two REL Classic 98 subs, they definitely sound best using RELS "high level input" cables hooked up to the speaker terminals on the amp. The "low level" RCA inputs are a bit muddy sounding IMO. I would not use the Parasound crossovers in the amp, the REL subs already have built in amps/crossovers and you are just making things way too complicated trying to use their High and low pass features, just use the "High level Inputs" on the REL.

Pay very close attention to the way you hook the wires up to the speaker terminals. Since my amps are differential mono blocks I had to do things differently to solve a 60hz hum.
Your Hint 6 should (???) hook up this way:

Connections should be made to the same binding post on main amplifier as the main speakers. Red (+) to
amplifier main right speaker red terminal (+), yellow to amplifier main left speaker red (+) terminal and black to
a ground lug or chassis screw.

Thanks. That's exactly the comparison I'm planning to make. My HINT 6 has independently adjustable high- and low-pass filters, so I'm particularly interested in testing whether actually relieving the L400s of the lowest frequencies produces a benefit. I'll also try the REL high-level connection exactly as you suggest. I'll report back.

I tried using the high/low filters with one of my Parasound P6 preamps (same as your Hint 6) which was MEH using the sub output on the P6 to the LFE input on the REL sub. When using RELS high level input you'll be surprised how much you have to turn it down to make it "disappear" into the overall music- I have mine set to 35-40 Hz and only six clicks up from zero on the volume knobs (a bit less than 1/4 volume).

I've been trying for days now to use an RCA cable to low pass to the REL. I've done this with every possible combination you can image with every variable you can imagine. No signal seems to be passed to the REL. What I wanted to do is high pass the mains and low pass to the REL. I'm no longer sure if this is doable. I could use the supplied REL cable and pass a signal off the speaker terminals, but if the mains are high passed at the same time then the REL will be getting the same high passed signal the mains are receiving. I'm at a loss here.
 
Internet is giving conflicting info, need to look at owner's manual.
Looked at manual and deleted previous post because it should high pass the speaker output.

You are using the REL's low level input above the speakon connector and the hi/low level gain above the low level input?
Sub output (black) below the crossover off/on switch on the HINT?

Yes. I've tried every possible combination of variables. If anyone knows the magic combination, tell me and I'll try it.

Use the speak on connection on the REL to the amps speaker terminals, turn off all the crossovers on the preamp/amp and use the crossover & volume built into the sub... it will sound stupendous once you get it dialed in.

This is why I use a Schiit Freya+ preamp (which has NO built in crossover/sub outs, etc) and my Parasound P6 is in its box in the linen closet taking up space- all the sub out/crossover stuff conflicts with the crossover in the subs.
