Hipsters and wax

I'll take physical media over streaming any day. Gen Z is starting to realize this too as CDs and vinyl are making a comeback.

There's a lot to be said about being able to hold something you paid money for in your hands vs a bunch of data floating around in outer space.

I wish all the physical magazines would come back too.

I rip all my physical media to FLAC but still like having the real McCoy too.

I don't really miss tape though.

So, "reel to reel tape" and "8-track tape" are incorrect?
:dunno:
Reel to reel tape is tape wound on a reel or intended to be wound on a reel.
8-track tape is tape contained in an 8-track cartridge.
cassette tape is tape enclosed in a tape cassette.

What you used to buy in a store, pick up with your hand, insert in a deck, give to your friend is a tape cassette.

Normally you don't deal with cassette tape itself.

Cassette tape is what you are winding with a BIC pen, inserting it into a tape cassette reel.

When I was young and had regular access to these formats, we generally called them records/LPs, 45s, 8-tracks, reels, and cassettes—not that we were correct, but we understood each other.
