Hissing Sound on Right Channel on H/K 330B

Hi guys and girls, my first post here :). I just got given an old H/K 330b, the thing seems to be working properly but I'm getting a hissing sound from the right channel. The sound increases as I turn up the volume. Would any of you good folks know where the problem might be? I've managed to get a copy of the service manual, but I have no idea where to start.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Welcome to AK, HB. Sorry can't help w/your problem, I'm just one of the janitors. But I think that a Doctor will be along shortly.:smoke:

Welcome! Lots of HK 330-series owners here. I have a 330c and a 330i and lvoe them both. The best place to start is a thorough cleaning of all the controls: rotary, pushbutton and others. Do a search on "DeOxit" and there'll be lots of information. If the unit hasn't been serviced lately, then chances are there's lots of corrosion on old contacts.

Hi, thanks for all the response!

The amp is connected to my computer at the moment, I've tried switching the inputs around (i.e right plug to left, and left to right) but the hissing sound stays on the right channel. It also hisses on Phono, not too sure about the radio, because there is a bit too much ambient noise as I havent got a FM antenna hooked up yet.

When I first got it, most of the controls weren't working, but after messing around with it for a while I think its working - possibly some problems with the base / treble control though, it sounds a bit uneven on each channel...but perhaps I'm just hearing what I'm suppose to hear? (I've upgraded from these very crap PC speakers, so what I'm hearing now is much different)

I've heard a lot about this Deoxit stuff from this forum, I'm not based in the US, so I don't know if it'll be avaliable to me. How would you use it? Do you just apply it to the potentiometer terminals?

Thanks for the help guys! I'm a real newbie, so please be patient with me :)

Hi, thank you very much for the responses so far. I've been on holiday for recent months, but I'm back and still facing the same hissing problems after cleaning the potentiometers :(

After some testing in mono-mode, I've concluded that the low frequencies on my right channel are also significantly quieter than it is suppose to be.

I am thinking that maybe the two problems could be related, would any of you guys be able to tell me where to look for the problem?

Many thanks!
