Historic Sansui website revival

I recently saw that one of the Sansui threads were closed as the website was no longer reachable. Its been on my list to show everyone The WayBack machine and how it has archived the website. I just glanced at them, have not looked at in detail but the data seems intact.

Original thread that was closed: https://audiokarma.org/forums/index...-kikuchi-factories-with-inside-photos.815721/

WayBack Machine links:

*Be sure to use Google Chrome or Edge for the built in translate feature (usually appears as a button in the end of the address bar).

Sansui electric corporate emplyoyee's pension fund website: https://web.archive.org/web/20190108225515/http://beauty.geocities.jp/kuniyasu_sister/

Sansui Factories page: https://web.archive.org/web/2018110...ties.jp/kuniyasu_sister/omoidenote/atoti.html

Memoris of Sansui (misc. PDFs) - https://web.archive.org/web/2019033...jp/kuniyasu_sister/omoidenote2/omoidenote.htm
*Be sure to check out the "link to savethon86.pdf" link oddly placed in the bottom left. Pretty cool photos there.

Awesome resource! I've used it over the years to search for many different archived pages. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, we lost so many great websites when the free ones shut down. They had hundreds in Japan, some still going, alot are now gone. Unfortunately even the wayback machine only has a fraction of them.

Boy you got that right -- and yea they really only have a fraction of what's lost. I remember a Japanese site that was horrible to navigate, and kind of wonky, but they had page after page of repairs on all the classics I was led there for McIntosh Every type of receiver you could imagine...

I wonder if anyone remembers, or knows if it still exists. Totally in Japanese.

Are you thinking of amp8?

タイトル – 前園俊彦物語

Everyone always asks: "WHAT ' REALLY ' HAPPEN TOO SANSUI????"

Most Sansui folks may know the simple story, some of us know 'in detail', but THIS SITE TELLS ALL, from a corporate insider major player manager , Toshihiko Maezono, It's' all the corporate info, what happen in the beginning, in 1972 / 1973 / 1974, Quad, and later on, & what caused Sansui's demise - in detail.

It's the entire 'Sabang'!! - "THIS IS IT."

Like always, reading Japanese translated to English is kind of 'difficult to read & understand' but you can get through it and 'get the idea'.

IF... you copy the whole site, all 12 chapters, and re-write it and fix it all up to read like a 'smooth story' - it's 20 hrs now - it's huge. But the time flys by because it's FUN learning insider Sansui history and some of it is on the best Sansui & JBL equipment which is very enlightening.' Much of it is on President Kikuchi 'himself' which you 'rarely ever' see or read - quotes, philosophies, decisions, & actions.

Here's a hint: 80% of the time when you see Mr./Ms. or Mr./Ms. sui - what that 'really means' is the word - SANSUI. Knowing this makes it easier to read the first time. (Takes awhile to figure that one out.) Good luck with the rest of the Mr. /Ms. whatever's - there's a ton. A few other glitches like that but that's the major mind twist when reading. Other than that it's all pretty straight forward really.

It's FUN to go through slowly, 'word by word', studying it, absorbing it, and transcribing it. Cool!

It's the ' VERY BEST ' I've ever read on Sansui's History ... and it's EVERYTHING. I can't believe I never seen this site before. Like how did this site escape me?? :dunno:
The 'internet' has instructed me on many occasions: " You have reached the END OF THE INTERNET on SANSUI! ' :)

It's a really Fun & very informative read.

If your into Sansui's History - it's everything.

The BEST I've ever seen & it's from Toshihiko Maezono.

** If you Combined Toshihiko Maezono's site with Papagon's Sansui historical site writeup, 4 chapters, and you would have a 'Novel' of History on Sansui. **

I already changed Papagon's site to 'smooth' English, which wasn't easy, that took like 25 hours or something. It was difficult.

Just thinking out loud.

Can you save that as an html or doc/word file somewhere? I don't have 25 hours to blow figuring all that out, but it'd be fun to read through!

I could save it in MS Word, it's in MS notepad now, but I have nowhere to post it.

To post it here on AK may be copywrite infringement - I don't know. And it's so 'HUGE' anyway. Just finished doing the first draft last night, 25+ hours ~ 3 nights. It was Fun really - felt like 5 minutes a night - time just flew. It's not perfect but it's easily readable now.

It can 'be read' fairly easy really, not as bad a Papagon's 4 history chapters in their site, which also has 'in depth' company info - really also good really. That took a really long time to clean up from being translated into English. May have lost it though with an 'external hard drive' 'corruption-malfunction' nightmare - lost a lot. I'd have to look. Put the two together and you would have a small novel.

I thought someone hosted the entire engineers history here on AK. ??

If I go to way back machine it responds with error message “too many requests”.

Hey this thread link is different!

Hirano was the engineer I referred to above in post #17

This thread has Toshihiko Maezono's personal notes. He was photography, artistic designer & sales, plus management positions, very fascinating to read about!

He was responsible for the visual design of the AU-111 in 1965, which began the entire "black face" cosmetics for Sansui. And it was so popular they stuck with it afterwards.

Since the AU-111 was the last tube product Sansui would make, they let him do what he wanted as a new employee.

Maezono is a professional a photographer: He did a lot of Sansui's advertising & marketing.

Get this: the AU-111 design style was inspired by the Nikon F camera!

Even though he admired Leica, he thought the Nikon had better cosmetics & used it as inspiration. Comparing AU-111 to Nikon F you can see it.

Hirano mentions him in that other thread too: Maezono went on to run Ortofon in Japan after he left Sansui.

I would post translated notes here, but his website says it's copyrighted. Go read it

( history on JBL, Sansui's latticework speaker design, blowing up four ( !! ) JBL 4350 speakers with a BA-5000 running in BTL mode, and more )
