Hit Parade Hall of Fame

If you are as frustrated as I am by the artists who get nominated/elected to the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame -- and especially those left out -- you can vote for this year's inductees to the Hit Parade Hall of Fame. This Web link shows who is already in, who is nominated, and how to vote. http://www.hitparadehalloffame.org/
The Hit Parade Hall does a nice job of recognizing pop and MOR singers who sold a ton of records, but for whatever reason don't seem to get much attention from the Rock n Roll HOF. e.g.: Chicago, Neil Diamond, The Monkees, Neil Sedaka, Tommy James & the Shondells, Johnny Rivers, The Carpenters, Connie Francis, Linda Ronstadt, Kenny Rogers and Lou Christie are Hit Parade Hall inductees, but are not in the Rock HOF.
I like the fact the Hit Parade Hall lets the public participate in the voting. And you can submit names for next year's nominees. (I will be strongly suggesting The Moody Blues, The Grass Roots, Gary Lewis and the Playboys and Jan & Dean).
C'mon gang. Cast your votes now!

Kinda sounds to me like the Hit Parade HOF is redundant. The old saw was always that "yeah, the critics dont like me,but the public does.Look how many records I sold."
In theory, the RnR HOF is SUPPOSED to be about artistic acheivements, while the hit parade was always about units sold and public popularity. The court of public opinion has already spoken about Linda Rondstat,Neil Diamond,K.C. and the Sunshine Band,Johnny Mathis,Barbara Striesand,Styx,Chicago, etc.Putting them in a HOF because of their popularity just seems like repeating the same praise twice. And a lot of these popular artists were the ones who won the grammy awards in their heyday anyway.
Just my two cents.

Interesting: record sales and/or public popularity are not a legitimate measure of artistic achievement. (?) Well then, I guess Elvis Presley, Elton John, The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Jame Brown, The Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye, Madonna, The Supremes, Rod Stewart, The Beach Boys, The Four Seasons, The Temptations, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Ricky Nelson and Fats Domino should all have their HOF enshrinements revoked because (gasp!) each had the audacity to chart more than 30 Billboard singles.

Often the two things(commercial merit and artistic acheivment) meet up.But are you saying these artists you mentioned made it into the hall of fame solely on how many records they sold?If that was the case, then Vicki Carr and Henry Mancini would be there too.I was just making the point that we shouldnt worry about all those artists who havent made the hall of fame despite world wide popularity. These are the artists who get all the awards(Grammys,American Music Awards, etc.)during their heyday.Yeah,Elvis sold a ton of records, but thats not the reason he is in the HOF.I was trying to be diplomatic, but there is no way in hell that Johnny Mathis,or Gary Puckett,or Chicago or the Grass Roots belong in the HOF.Yeah, they sold boatloads of records, but they still sucked. They sell millions of Twinkies but they shouldnt be at the top of the food pyramid.

Johnny Mathis no, but one could argue that Chicago, the Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Rush, Yes, Neil Diamond, Three Dog Night, the Grass Roots, the Zombies, and even the Monkees, Tommy James and the Shondells, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Herman's Hermits are as deserving, if not more so, than say Leonard Cohen (who?), Parliament (huh?), the Sex Pistols (puh-leeze), the Clash (one hit), the Flamingos (one hit), the Velvet Undergound (no hits), Run DMC (gimme a break), Jimmy Reed (huh? part 2), and Richie Valens (tragic yes, worthy no), not to mention a host of other inductees who didn't even perform rock 'n roll and are little more than footnotes in the annals of music history.

the RnR HoF is pretty much a joke. the list of folks not in the hof pretty much says it all..its like Babe Ruth or Cy Young not being in the baseball HoF

The Clash only had one hit?

Meant to say one Top-10 hit: Rock The Casbah in 1982. (They had one other chart hit: Train in Vain, #23, 1980). That's it for The Clash. But hey, the Grateful Dead were the true one-hit wonders. Touch of Grey in 1987 was their only Top-40 single.

I agree completely. Even the local classic rock station had a contest to vote for who should be in the hall. It's hard to believe how some of the great artists are left out and others with "artistic achievements" are in. Some of those artists could barely play.

The lack of progressive rock bands such as Yes, ELP, Rush, etc. is really a huge slight if you are talking about artistic achievement.

It's kinda embarrassing to the city of Cleveland anymore.

The problem with the RnR HOF is that the inductees are chosen by a board, and that board has very narrow parameters,it seems like.Arena rock?Nope, sorry.Prog Rock?Nope, sorry again. They choose bands like the Velvet Underground and The Sex Pistols based on the influence they had on so many later artists. But if you use that criteria, where the hell are Wire,or The Buzzcocks?A lot of the guys on the board are REALLY old,and many of them have ties to the Atlantic group of labels.Hence,Led Zep is in,but Rush is not.Yes is one of my fave bands, and I cant see where Zep was that much better than Yes.Was Richie Valens that much more influential than the Monkees?
But the point isnt how many hits youve had.Using that criteria,Run DMC is out,and MC Hammer is in.Joni Mitchell is out,and Linda Rondstat is in.The fact that you can turn on any oldies or classic rock station and hear all those artists you think should be in the HOF is their legacy. Not some statue in an overpriced building in Cleveland.
