Hitachi HA-330

Hey everyone,

I've been lurking for a while, and just bought my first piece of "collectable" hardware, so thought I would share and see if anybody has any tips for maintenance, or just interesting anecdotes :)

My last system was a HT with contemporary Pioneer receiver, Bose 201's, Paradigm center, and cheapy sub and surrounds. It was a hodge-podge of stuff I picked up while installing stereos in college.

I found this little guy on CL for $115. The owner didn't have any info about it since it was willed to him from a friend who passed.

The unit is in really nice condition visually. There isn't hardly a scratch or spec of dust to be found, including inside. Everything seems in order, all the pots are free from static.

So far listening has been a treat. I look forward to some quality speakers.

Cheers!

I would be inclined to recap the unit to bring it to its former glory or at least the power supply but that's just my logic. Nice piece!

Yes, this will be my first time attempting this. I originally purchased this unit expecting it to be in mediocre shape, so I wouldn't fee bad experimenting on it. Turns out its really nice, so I may need to find something a little worse for the wear to learn on before I start poking around in this one.

Welcome to AK!!

I recently bought one of these myself, after reading some very good comments here and on hifiengine. Have you given is the DeOxit treatment yet? If not, do so - there is a sticky about the process in the DIY subforum (I think). You may well notices it sounds even better afterward. Clean the RCA inputs as well.

I'm a vinyl freak, and I really like the phono stage on the HA-330.

I'm running a turntable on the phono, and a bluetooth on the AUX imput. Both sound great to me. I was really surprised how much I am enjoying the sound compared to the Pioneer surround receiver it replaced. Thanks for the tip. I'll order some DeOxit now. Last night I was listening and am pretty sure my right channel is a little quieter than the left. I plan on switching the speakers tonight to try to troubleshoot what is causing the disparity.

DeOxit can do wonders, seriously.

And yeah, any decent amp from the late 60s until the early 80s will SPANK pretty much any modern surround sound amp for 2 channel music. Even the bottom of the line (BOTL) low-powered gear from most major makes will sound notably better.
