HK 330B Mods

I know here somewhere there is a thread on how to modify an HK-330B receiver.. Mine has issues, so, since I have to open and "operate" on it, I will take the opportunity to re-cap and modify.. Can someone direct me to such thread or website?

use teh google search function to find some HK 330b recap threads. Should be plenty of reading to get you started.

Thanks...there used to be a thread here, many yrs ago, with schematics of the mods, and all the info.

What kind of mods are you looking for? I have some info about where to put an extra cap in to keep it from oscillating if you are interested. Supposedly these things are prone to parasitic oscillations around 2MHz. This I can neither confirm nor deny.

There's about a million electrolytic caps in the signal path in these things since every stage is cap coupled. I'm convinced that's why everyone says these things sound so "warm" and "tubelike" (read "hi freq. rolloff" and "low damping factor"). Upgrading those to Nichicon KZ or FG of Elna Simlic and replacing some of the smaller ones with film caps would probably be worthwhile thing to do. Also, putting in bigger output coupling caps might be a good idea too. Maybe using some modern transistors in the preamp would lower the noise floor a little.

I haven't done any of these things to my 330A. But one day I might.
