HK 730 Output Transistors

A Sound Mind

Reckless Tinkerer
I'm restoring this receiver and pulled the output transistors for testing and to apply new sil-pads and compound.
It uses 2SB541 and 2SC388.matched pairs.
I tested them on an auto tester and they id'd correctly, but their hfe results were far below spec.
Does this mean that they're tired and should be replaced?
If so, what would be the best substitutes?

If they pass the std multimeter diode tests, then I'd happily clean & reinstall them - your 'auto tester' almost certainly doesn't have enough power to test hfe for TO-3 sized transistors (the hfe spec. is probably at a 1A collector current, your tester will be way below that).

That's a great point. Yes, they all pass the diode tests.
I'm pleased to save the expense of replacing them.....Thanks!
