My trusty Harmon-Kardon AVR430 has begun to have jumps in the volume on the left channel. This happens when adjusting the volume from either the front panel knob or the remote. It does it at all overall volume levels and from multiple sources. Can't say how loud exactly, but LOUD--maybe full volume? I'd say it's the same every time--not proportionate to the volume setting. The other channels, at least center and right, seem normal.
I have tried a full reset--no change. Seems like it's time for surgery. I have a tech manual, but any ideas where to look first? Thanks!
(I have tools (DVM, scope, soldering station) and understand circuits, but have not troubleshot an amp before.)
Also, while I'm in there, what's the capacitor that provides keep-alive energy for data retention? I need a new one.
