HK SUB-TS14 - Not Working

Corbin Gross

Lost in Translation
Hey, guys.

I have this cool Harman Kardon sub I'd like to get working (SUB-TS14).

When I got it, I was told it didn't work. OK, fine. I'm game to give it a try. I flipped the power switch just to see, and no smoke or sparks. Just an amber/yellow power/indicator light up top/front.

I plugged my iPod into the RCA In jacks. Nothing yet. Then I tried the fuse. The fuse was good, but when I plugged it in, the lights in the shop flickered a sec (common at my house when turning on pretty much anything) and after a moment I got bass. Great.

But it only lasted a few seconds and then there was a small click and no more bass.

So that's a relay putting it in to protection mode I think, right? Can I fix that?

What might cause such a thing?

Should I even bother?

Thanks, guys.

I googled harman Kardon Sub-TS-14 and found the Owners manual for that thing!
Its apparently a sub from a surround sound/Home Theater in a Box system ...
Do you have any of the other speakers, or just the sub?
Looks like the manual is from 2003 - its 12 years old and just may have failed.
I wouldn't put a lot of effort or $$ into it.

Thanks for the manual.

I actually found that whilst googling around a bit myself. I didn't find anything much like my issue in the troubleshooting section though.

I don't have the rest of the set so I wasn't able to try it plugged in.

The thing that threw me is the time it worked for just a bit. I thought I fixed it by just taking the fuse out and putting it back. But then, well, you know...
