Wajobu,
Honestly, it's your family, and therefore, your business, but if I were to vote on your behalf... I'd vote for the amp. There are at least two reasons I say this, and I'll state them briefly:
1.) While I want my child to succeed, I am not willing to bear the cost of college, whether or not I have that ability. I had to figure out how to fund college, and how to finally get there, and all of that. It did me a lot of good to do so, and I think I probably gained more(and had a lot better grades) than I would have if my parents had been able and willing to fund it.
2.) I recently came to the conclusion that this is my life, yes, it is, and that I am no longer going to engage in some deferment of its enjoyment for the sake of some future enjoyment that I may well never realize.
Oh, and number 3:
3.) It's a really cool amp, and you deserve it!
That's how I'd vote, since you asked, but I realize how you will probably decide anyway. Wave bye-bye. (Is that a tear? I feel your pain, dude, 20 years of it, when I sold off all my gear for the sake of love.) Parting was sweet sorrow... Okay, skip the 'sweet' nonsense.
Cheers!
Mark
