Home Hi-Fi that made its way to car audio- standard & aftermarket

I've dealt with Bose sound systems installed as factory equiptment in Infinitys (the car brand).

Also, I'm familar with Infinity in car audio, but cannot recall the auto manufacturer (it was not in the Infinity car brand- how unpoetic, unfitting!).

If I recall, Hughes Aircraft's SRS has been used in, I believe, GM products. Am I right?

Who made GM's "Monsoon" series? Was this a Delco brand (therefore not a home audio crossover)? If so, let's strike it out.

Didn't Porsche use some interesting standard gear? Was it originated from home hi-fi? What about Ferrari? Lamborghini? DeLorean? What did they use?

Did anyone use ADS as standard gear in their production runs?

How about Sony? Jensen?

What about any other brands?

I once installed, incorrectly, an aftermarket Marantz car receiver in my friend's Delta 88, back in the late 80's. I cooked it (sorry, Derek!).

I also had a neat aftermarket Yamaha receiver in my 78' or 79' mint green Buick Regal turbo sport coupe.

I expect that HT will keep creeping into autos. What are we going to do when someone crashes when listening to "Bullit" or "2 Fast 2 Furious" because they are spooked off the road when the rear channels and subwoofer get too realistic?

The Ford GT has/had only two options: paint stripes/scheme, and a McIntosh audio system.

Infinty was used by Chrysler. (that's what is in my Dodge truck) Jenson was used by Jeep for awhile before Chrysler bought them out and put their own corporate stuff in. Now Chrysler is using Boston Acoustics in their premium options. I have a pair of 6x9s out of a 300 but have not played around with them yet.
JBL, Becker, Infinty, Harmon Kardon, Jenson, Crown, and a few others are now all under the same company.
Bose has been used by many atuos manufacturers.

I had some EPI seperates - bought around '86-87. Just saw the woofers yesterday when I was cleaning some stuff out of a storage shed; I'll have to check if they're still any good.

McIntosh was an offering in some Subarus. My kid wanted me to buy 1 so my car stereo matched my home system.

Becker was/is a European company that supplied radios for European cars from at least the '50s. Stock for VW for some time. Made some great radios. Also, Blaupunt (sp?) was a vendor to that market.

Crown would have been crown of Japan and not the Illinios company. At best nothing to look for.

I have a Bose OEM in my Volvo 960 that is fm/am/cassette and actually sounds very decent. The OEM CD changer for Volvo was Sony at the time. Looking to add a CD rather than replace the radio as I thn can listen to my classical tape collection.

pioneer made the cd changers for mitsubishi from about 93 98, i've got one.

McIntosh makes fanominal i cant spell haha car radios and amps, some of the neatest looking i've had the pleasure to work with.

Sony and pioneer both are quite prevelent in the aftermarkent scene, pioneer being the better of the two imo.

Once you've got a power inverter installed - ALL home audio can become car audio. Who needs the back seat anyway.

Adcom made a few amps for car installations. One pops up every now and again on eBay. I don't think they made any head units, though, which is too bad 'cause I bet they would have been good ones, and built like a tank.

I thought Alpine supplied Lamborghini. I also heard some years ago there was some connection between Alpine and Marantz or was it Luxman?
