After getting back into this hobby in an energetic fashion and feeling like I have my main system pretty much squared away, I wanted to try to recapture/recreate my first high fidelity system of which i have fond memories.
I owned vintage when it was new....obviously I was much younger too!
A WTB post on Barter Town was answered and resulted in my first step towards getting this system together. AKer "nolasally" sold me a pair of vintage Altec Capri 887a, the first really good set of speakers I ever purchased. They still work wonderfully, no scratchy pots, CTS tweeters working fine and sounding good even thought I seem to remember them having a bit more bass. Still the CTS tweeters sound very good, just as a remember them. More than adequate bas for a smallish home office.
Cabinets are almost pristine for their age. Likely the woofer has had some new surrounds, but might be something I can play with. I'm very happy with them and fellow AKer "nosally" did an outstanding pack and ship, my thanks to him.
I have them hooked up to an "newer" Denon 1804 receiver and an even newer Sony BluRay player for CD's. Straming almost constantly during the day is MOG from my PC through just a headphone out from my computer into a line level input on the receiver.
Next addition should be a Sansui 5500 if I can find one that won't break the bank.
