Homemade Cornwall with Crites

Anyone visiting my nearby thread knows I am smitten with a single Cornwall I found, enough to want a pair. I have a chance to buy a home-made pair, but I am hesitant. Here are the particulars:

The cabinets appears to have been built like older Cornwalls, and appear to be made of regular 3/4" plywood. I am a bass player, and I can tell you that professional bass guitar cabinets not made of voidless Baltic Birch are junk. What are factory Cornwalls made of? Would these home-made cabinets make you hesitate like they make me hesitate?

Woofers are Klipsch 15" k-33p woofers. This seems fine, as long as they are working properly. The Cornwall in my living room, which I plan to marry, has K33s.

Midrange drivers are Speaker lab HD350. Here, I am concerned whether these "play well with others" in a Cornwall. For example, their sensitivity may be different from the stock Cornwall I will marry (if she will have me) which has the K55V midrange driver.

These have the Bob Crites CT125 HF Tweeters, which should not be a problem, and they have Crites crossovers.

Tell me what your concerns might be, or what questions I might have for this seller.

The factory CW used to be 3/4 good ply, now (CW IV & III I think?) they're not. Agreed midhorn is the question-mark/no-exp. Someone from out-west should know. Keep surfing, maybe there's enough here. New Atlases aren't cheap, but you can probably get parts onesey-twosey at auction. Had the Crites TW & XO--fine. Good woofer in there, too. You might be completing your pair in pieces for a bit. People on the k-board will likely frown that they are not Real Cornwalls (ie as PWK-blessed-them) so the resale will be low/non-existent with Any non-Klipsch parts let-alone a whole homebrew. If you just want sound, carry-on. Personally, I'd want the Atlas and the real midhorn for matching (and yes I hate that k-600 midhorn, but YMMV) but you never know. Finding orphans is harder than finding good used pairs. FWIW.

My Cornwalls are the unfinished "decorator" model. The cabinets are birch plywood.

I myself would have no use for the knockoffs unless they were $100 garage speakers.

Hi, I have a pair of 84 Corns in oak. Had ALK make me a set of Universal networks & swapped out the K-600 for for an Altec 511 w/k-55 driver sitting on top of the cabinet. Pure heaven!

I did see your other thread...seems this one is now a bit irrelevant given your CW III find. Congrats!

For what it is worth, the homemade ones you mention have parts that would work well. Given their quality the seller is probably asking real CW price for them? I think the cabinets are either a problem or a bargaining chip for lower price, depending on how you look at it. If the price is right, they would be a good pickup for someone who wants to build some great cabinets...but not for resale.
