Honda CR-V

I have four Hondas in my driveway; 2 Accords, an Odyssey, and a Fit. Next spring we're replacing the '99 van with a new CRV. All my Hondas do is go and go; gas, tires and oil is about it. Well, brakes and tires once in a while.
 
We've had two CR-V rollovers in the area here in the last couple weeks ...

Just sayin ...
 
I detailed a family friend's 08-11 gen CR-V not long ago. Great styling, handling and features. Power was decent. I can't say I'm a fan of the new generation though. Not a fan of the "van-back" look. To me, the '08-11 is the best looking one.

You're sole correct point is "generally annoying," and in itself negates the others and defines your action.

I hear it is oft used by Justin Bieber.
 
The missus bought hers new in '02. She doesn't like the new models (no tire on the rear gate LOL). The side open rear door on hers is easier on her shoulders than the newer model lift gates. As for power, she has no problem maintaining freeway speeds of 65-70, even loaded with friends and shopping. 125K with no issues.
 
I love Honda's. Drive them forever with minimal maintenance. I have a '05 Civic 5 speed, and while it is a bit stiff riding, handles great. With 3 or 4 people, holds speeds at 75, although mountains do challenge it a bit. I average 40 mpg over the road.

Those who drive "boats" do think the steering is "jerky" because they are used to constantly correcting for the spongy steering. Hold the wheel steady, and the Honda will go straight.

This week I had a chance to drive a Suburban. Felt like driving a lumber wagon, and couldn't feel the road through the steering wheel. No sense of control, and if I had to swerve to miss something on the road, would have rolled or ended in the ditch for sure.

Although its not typical behavior of normal drivers who aren't trying to be Senna in their SUVs,
when pushed hard enough, a dummy can roll most anything -

Steering a topic wildly off focus isn't normal behavior on AK, but ...

125k is just getting broken in.

I really think that if the Ex's '97 hadn't been hit a few weeks ago, 300k would have been easily possible. The engine and transmission were healthy.

I haven't seen stats, but I'm sure that their rollover ratings are on par with other compact crossovers. To be fair, you also have to consider the generation when talking about safety. Of course, the older models without VSA will roll easier (that's true for all vehicles).

At no time did I ever feel unsafe in the Ex's '97. No, it didn't have VSA or side impact airbags (it was very safe by '97 standards). When she got hit, the front end crumpled as it should (which is good since she got hit by a Suburban). In fact, the Suburban sustained very little damage (she was able to drive it), but the driver was feeling sore within just a couple of minutes. Neither my ex nor her dog (who was laying in the back) had any injuries nor ever felt sore afterwards.
