All the maijic is in the head and not really new technology. Dijet is a very well respected carbide manufacturer and really strong in carbide and solid carbide drills. The heads must be a realitively new offering for them. Dr hosoi devolped a very unique drill point in the early 80's, basically put the company on the map for hole making, it is still copied by everyone and their brother today. I am a former employee and wish I could go back, unfortunately they do not produce in the US anymore.

Not exactly the same tech, but hollow chisel mortisers have been around a long time for wood working.
