horn loaded speaker ID please!

a pair of these are in the back corner of my local thrift. They are branded Panasonic and made in Japan. anybody know them? my bet is that they are crap, but when i first glanced i thought i had klipsch horn speakers staring at me.... oh well.

ID anyone??

Probably a very cheapo cone tweeter behind that sectored lens.

I hate to call them "crap" because they probably made somebody very happy once upon a time. But, for our purposes here it's probably fairly accurate.

Panasonic/technics SB series. I'd pass on most of them too, but for a couple of bucks curiosity would win here.

i am curious no doubt. but this thrift thinks everything they have is worth commanding a high price for.. but they will sell tube consoles for $50 all day... crazy eh?

The SB series contains some very well-known and superb speakers. I wouldn't be so quick to turn up my nose at these, especially if the price is right.

More than likely what you are seeing is a cheap chipboard cabinet, covered with woodgrain contact paper and a 6.5" full range driver with a 2" paper cone tweeter, or nothing on the horn at all. I've seen them both ways. Often the backs are thin perforated beaverboard with attached wiring or an RCA jack. If they are really a Panasonic product, they more than likely came with an all in one system.

Look inside the horn - if it's a cone, leave it alone; if it's a dome, bring 'em home.
