How About a Live Music Thread?

So, in addition to liking recorded music, I am always looking for places to hear some live music. How about chiming in with your favorite venues say within 4-5 hours from the Detroit area? I'll start with Bakers Keyboard Lounge in Detroit. Great atmosphere even if some of the acts are not as professional as I'd like. Dirty Dog Cafe in Grosse Point. Good acoustics, food expensive and atmosphere a little highbrow for me. Bert's Marketplace in the Eastern Market. Great energy, lousy food. The Whiting in Flint. BB King was good there, sat in the front row. Kenny Wayne Shepard also was worth seeing. Good medium sized venue! That's all for now.

Several of us enjoy shows at the Ark in AA.

The Siegel Schwall Blues Band is this Friday 8/27, with a pre show dinner planned at the Ann Arbor Brewing Company.

Are you going Olson? I'm looking forward to this. What time shall we meet? The concert starts at 8:PM so I was thinking around 5:30.
 
The Ark in Ann Arbor is the best place I've been for live entertainment. Excellent venue that seats around 400 people tops. Great sound and very intimate. The Firefly Club in Ann Arbor was excellent as well but it's closed up now. What a shame too as it was a great jazz club.

The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor is pretty good. We saw Richard Thompson there from 10 rows back and really enjoyed the experience. The Royal Oak Music Theater is a bit larger but lacks seating (the upper level has a few seats) but the sound is quite good. The Decemberists' performance was spectacular. The Majestic Theater on Woodward is quite a bit smaller but has no seating what so ever. If you don't mind standing for hours on end give it a shot. We saw Porcupine Tree there several years back but man did my feet hurt after awhile. I doubt I'll go back there again.

Toledo:
Murphy's Place. Acoustic Jazz

Indianapolis:
Slippery Noodle. Mostly Blues some Jazz some rock.


The Sound Board is such a disappointment acoustically. They spent enough to be state of the art. However, apparently nobody there knows how to run the gear to make it even sound passable.. In all the venues I have been in, it was by far the worst and it has the best equipment by far.

This is a great thread idea, but thought it should be not limited to the Detroit area..

So I started this thread in the music forum.
