I've heard good things about them. I don't need them, but you know how it is....

I actually need some smaller speakers. But the price is better than good and maybe I'll swap them for some nice bookshelf speakers.

Thanks for any reviews/info.

You should find plenty of info on the 17's. I have the 20's. The 4 ohm version.

They are at work because I could not find anything they sounded good with.

I mounted them up high, about 9 feet, and hooked up the BPC and they sound real nice.

I have tried other receivers at the office and they sound great as well.

Must be the space. Vinyl tile floor and a lot of hard surfaces.

Other than being rolled off above 15Khz....large cone mid/tweeter.
They do everything else very well!
I think they have a midrange 2die4....nice n' tight bass down into the low 40s.

I doubt I could hear anything over 12khz anyway.

I can't get in touch with the seller. Stupid microsoft passport!

They were first designed back in the 60's and supposed to be voiced to work with tubes. Don't think later designs changed anything. The crossover is the same anyway. The early one had screw on Klh medallions on the speaker grill.
Then some guys say use the resistor in series trick on them. They have nice midrange and a cloth surround that may need to be redoped (don't we all sometimes). Anyway that's a little to go on.

I'd snatch them up in a second, only I can't get in touch with the seller due to some idiotic glitch in 'microsoft passport'. I can only get lucky if the seller includes a phone number, which is rare.

I spent over 2 hours today configuring my Microsoft Passport crap. After that I still get "Fatal Logginet Error" or similar. Bunch of BS! I am so pissed off!!!

I'll publish the link if I get no further. You won't believe the deal...

Man,I wish you were here.In the last week,Ive passed on a very nice pair of 17s for $15,a pair of 22s for $5,and I have a pair of 20s just sitting in my garage,along with a pair of 6s in my closet.This town is KLH central.

I just picked up a couple of 17's from the local thriftmart. Cleaned them up and recapped them. $15 for the speakers, $20+ for recapping. They are awesome.
 
Just got a pair myself. Look forward to hearing them. Comparing them against Saras Model 20. Infinity RSIIIb, Infinity RS5, Marantz HD-770s. Different speakers all around, but fun to listen to them all. The RSIIIbs take a lot of power, but the midrange and imaging are unmatched. You can hear feet shuffling in a classical cello piece.
 
These are sleepers for sure..cloth surrounds. I picked up a pair last year from original owner in Florida. He told me his son blew the tweeters out of them so he replaced them with better ones. I found a pair of original tweets on the Bay but haven't installed them yet because I like the sound the way they are. Run them on a good amp and you'll be delighted.
 
Wonderful speakers! I wasn't initially impressed with them so i replaced all the crappy temple caps with Dayton's, and resealed the surrounds of the woofer. Wow, what a difference. The 17's are currently my favorite speaker that I own despite being the least valuable.
 
I agree. The 17s have an amazing midrange sweet spot. I run a pair with a Pioneer SA-9100/TX-9100 combo at work for hours on end. One of the all-time great value speakers out there.

I'll bet that combo sounds great. My SA 9100 has been out of commission for the past 6 months and I never had the chance to use it with my 17's. I currently use a SA 6700.
 
Another vote for the 17's here. I agree with the above descriptions too. Enjoy.
 
I have some CSW model 17's which are modeled after those and they are my second favorite speakers next to my AR 4's.
