How are the Headphones jack powered?

I read that older McIntosh preamplifier like C40 and older has higher quality headphones amp than newer units. How are the new preamps like the C46/C48/C2200 gets it's headphones power? From a cheap chip or from the Output Transformers like the speakers do?

The C-28 had a 4 watt amp for headphones and starting with the C-32, 33, 34 etc. the preamps with a seperate buss for Listening and Recording always had at least a 10 watt internal amp for headphones and monitor speakers. The others (that did not run them of the main amp) ran the headphones off the last gain stage, not as nice as a true power amp with PG, but certainly not a cheap chip.

There are no autotransformers in the preamps.
