How can I know the number of channels of the music source?

I usually enjoy ordinary music cd and online streaming services, such google play music and Pandora. I know it is better to have a 2.1 channel system. I just want to know is there a 5.1 channel music streaming service (not a video service) ? How can I know it is a 2.1 or 5.1 service?

I'm going to buy a new receiver, and I'm wondering buying a 2.1 or 5.1 channel one.

If you want home theater then get a 5.1 unit which is the most common. In fact, finding a new stereo 2 channel receiver might prove to be quite the search.

I've not heard of a 5.1 channel music service.
