How could I?

Kappa 8 & Ren 90

I absolutely love my Kappas but yesterday a call from a friend that has me going in circles. Why? For a pair of Ren 90s he has for sale.

Personally, I have never heard the Ren 90s but I do know that they are in mint mint condition. This guy is so OCD about his gear.

All the reviews say the Ren 90s are better than the Kappas except in the low end freq range. Well, he has that solved with this deal, 2 Infinity powered 12s are included.

Now I am thinking about selling my 8s.

Decisions decisions

I had all the kappa speakers and all the ren speakers, actually the ren 80 is a more accurate sounding speaker than the k8, the ren 90 sounds way more accurate than the k8, if you like to listen to rock music then i would keep the k8's for everything else i would get the ren 90's it's just a much better speaker, go to audio review to see what people have to say about them, perfect rating, i replaced my ren 90's with a pair of IRS epsilons and i have to say if you have a small to medium size room the rens sound very good but in a larger room the epsilons shine, i wish i would have kept my ren 90's for a second system, they sound that good, also the rens will reveal the weakest link in your system so you might have to upgrade depending on what you are using to drive them where as the k8's are a little more forgiving, if i were you i'd go for the ren 90's.

Thanks for your reply. I listen to everything. From Slayer, TOOL, Metallica, Rush to Tori Amos, Elton John, Travis Tritt, Alison Krauss, Miles Davis, etc....

The more I think about, I am going for the Ren 90s. The room I have right now is medium sized. The Kappas sound great in there. I would expect the Rens to sound better.

My setup is quite simple. The weakest link might be my pre or my amp if you are one that doesn't like pro audio amps for home stereo use.

If only I could convince the wife to keep the 8s and move them into our bedroom :scratch2:

I have to be honest with you in that i think you might like the sound of the k8's better than the 90 only because of the k8's will probably sound better on rush, metallica and mostly rock, i found that once you listen to the ren 90's that your taste in music changes as they reveal how badly most rock music really sound.

Looks like I am going to have to do an A B comparison. It's the only way I will know. Thanks for input.

I did end up getting the 90s. I tried to sell the Kappas but had no real takers. So, now I have both!

The Rens do sound better. Right now I am using a powered 12 Infinity sub PS212 with them. What I have found is the rock and metal sound better with this set up than the Kappas. More clarity and crisper high end and the sub takes care of the low end. Overall, I am VERY pleased.
