How Do I Attached This Can Cap?

I managed to loosen a capacitor can on my Scott 299. The tech replaced the original cap with a new cap that does not have the tabs that the original had (see photo). Do I reattach it with glue? If so, which type of glue?

Aleene's, Titebond or Gorilla glue would work. Even super glue would do the trick.

I didn't do the work. I don't instruct a tech how to do repairs or what parts to use. He's suppose to know.

Seems to me that this cap should already be on permanently, even without the tabs. Did you find that it was loose?

No. I likely knocked it loose when I turned the unit upside down to Deoxit the pots.

I guess your only choices are to re-glue the can back onto the board, or replace it with a proper can with tabs installed as some here have recommended.
If the amp is working fine as is, I would re-glue the can and move on.

I just finished regluing it with PVA glue. The PVA glue is Aileens as per Post No. 2. Hopefully it will hold.

It should…as long as you don’t flip the unit upside down any more.

I intend to avoid flipping it to the best I can, or at least pay closer attention if I do.

I see in your other posts that he used JJ caps, I think they are good caps but he should have installed a clamp with them, like pictured. Lots of techs out there that do quick/sloppy/cheap work while charging a premium for it.

I’ve glued that type of cap to the “football” type of fiber mounting plate with excellent results. I think I used something like E6000 adhesive around the rim.
