How Do I Lower the Arm Lift on Thorens TD-145?

Hi all,

I am trying to balance the tonearm on my Thorens TD-145 turntable, but I cannot figure out how to get the auto-lift device to lower on it. I downloaded the manual from VE, but the manual isn't very helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't think it is auto drop. Just auto lift at the end of a record. I could be wrong.

I meant how do u get the lifter to stay down? The only way i can do it is if i hold the switch over.

The platter has to be turning for the arm lift to stay down, I just use my record wieght to hold the switch on if I don't want the platter spinning.

When I worked on them, just took the platter off, turned on the unit and let the sub platter rotate. Or, you could remove the belt. Don't remember what the manual said....

1. Connect the turntable to mains
2. Set it running (moving the 33/45 lever to any speed (say 33) and then pushing it even further to the START position so the platter starts spinning)
3. Now use the cueing lever to cue the tonearm down.

If the motor isn't running, the turntable won't let you cue down the tonearm.

Is it yours the MK2 version? The tonearm worked very well with a Grado Prestige cartridge (i.e. Grado Red, Grado Green).

I am not sure. How can one tell the difference between Mk1 and Mk2?
