How do Moderators manage?!

mg196

Johnny Thunders - LAMF
I have an honest question for ALL of the moderators/people who run the site:

HOW DO YOU MANAGE THIS SITE AND A LIFE?!?!?!

It seems like this is a fulltime job! An immensely time-consuming job, at that. Could you please give the rest of us an idea of what your average day is like, between your hobby, the site, and your family? I may be one of the few to ask, but I know everybody else is curious.

Thanks for all your work!

There's a life outside of this place ????

I really need to get out more !! :yikes:

Well, we've got a very good bunch of members who realize that AK is a friendly place. Not very much rancor, which makes it easy to be a moderator. I've learned a lot about gear I wouldn't have thought about, for example. So, am I gonna say somebody's opinion is crazy? No, I'll grant they have ears of their own.
That, and everybody knows vintage solid state is great :thmbsp:

. . ."I only use my HPM100s for stands for my new Bose Lifestyle speakers, since everyone knows the Bose always sound better than some old junky Pioneer. I took out all the drivers from the HPM100s and use them for tire chocks for my pulpwood truck. I also took my Marantz 4400 receiver and chopped up the wood case for firewood. I used the guts out of the 4400 to fix up my Yorx rack system, except for the transformer, which I used to hold down the tarp on my AMC Pacer with no engine in it". . .

That kind of thing? :drunk: :puke:

Regards,
Gordon.

Sure, it can be tough, but Omer's right, it is a lot of fun......then there are other times....that, um, aren't so much fun. But we all work through it together and just keep on keepin' on.

We never had any idea that so many people would want to hang with us audio geeks :D

If anything was pressure, it was getting to where we are now over the course of the last say 6 weeks. No internal problems, site personality clashes, or anything else that's befallen us yet has taken as much of a toll on us on a personal level. But, clear sailing, blue skies ahead :)

Well my day goes like this

Check in on AK when time allows. Read what interests me. Then answer an ungodly amount of emails from people who want to join AK but don't want to fill in their age on the registration. I am about ready to tell all of these potential members to kiss my ass !!!!!!!!!!!! :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy: :grumpy:

The real workers are Kam,Grump and that highly intelligent Texan,no,no the other one,WardsWeb
As a moderator, and one of the feedback Forum,I have little to moderate, what do I say..XX was too kind to YYY

Alan

Gotta admit, not much for me to moderate, but who knows what the future holds..... :scratch2:

Grump,

Can't the field be made so they have to fill in something to get past it?

Far as I know nope. You would think that most of these new members are lurkers here and read the threads. I had hoped that they would see me Bitchin about this problem but Noooooo

While I'm at it if you are a new member registering and use Eathlink Forget it ! I am not filling out their stupid little email for each and everyone of you because you have some spam filter that needs pre approval for AK's emails to get through. Guess what ? You will never receive you confirmation email and hence not become a member. Sorry but I do not have the time to write them every time one of you join.

It is I am truly overwhelmed by my responsibilities here at AK, not so much moderating which is gawd awful hard work, but my postwhoring duties are a crushing and mind numbing experience (even more so to readers of my posts ;) ) to keep up and stay ahead of the other post whores and remain King of the post whores is a truly daunting task I do not wish upon any other soul  :butt1:

2nd what Pete said

AK began as a relatively small group of enthusiasts that enjoyed one another's company. Since then there have been some bumps in the road and as our readership has grown it's become more difficult to keep everyone happy. I'm fortunate that the forum I moderate is very EZ to manage. My style is more one of an observer than referee. I have children and have no desire to play baby sitter during my free time.

Tim, Dave and Ward are the one's that deserve all the credit! :thmbsp:

Personally, I drink. I drink a LOT.

Cheers,
Russ

A wise man recently told me, moderate with moderation, not intimidation. Words to live by.
