I have a bunch of cartridges, that are not in headshells

some of them don't have stylus guards either

I am curious what everyone else uses to store them?

right now I have them placed carefully in a china cabinet, but would prefer to build some sort of case/holder

thanks!

I would think that a small daily pill holder would work well.

Something like this:

I use hardshell eyeglass cases. Fold the fuzzy half of wide velcro to make dividers.

I use a jewelry box with hinged lid and three drawers. It holds cartridges plus many other accessories. Very convenient to get to stuff

thanks all, for the suggestions!

grotty: I have more cartridges than tonearms, or headshells.

those headshell holders look great though, where you just stick them in the hole & they stay put

loose cartridges are a little more worrisome

cheers

30-dram prescription vials. If the cartridge is loose, and has no stylus guard, mount the cart to the middle of a square of cardboard, fold the two sides up, so the edges meet, above the stylus. Slide it into the vial. Label the outside.

I ship this way, as well. Set the corrugations crosswise to the crease lines. You might have to cut the outside layer, to permit the wings to fold in. If you have the right size, you don't even need to tape it shut. The vial will keep everything secure.

Well most cheaper carts can go into a plastic divider storage box. If we start getting into high dollar and for some reason I don't have the factory box, I'll use a small cardboard gift/ring box.
You just mount the cartridge to the inside of the lid...

I use the small boxes like what jewelry come in. Then punch two holes, fasten the cart down with bread ties thru the two holes used for mounting. Also old 35mm film containers can accommodate most with guards.

A cart for every day of the week. The only problem with that for me would be the fear my Wife would think it was "stuff I don't really need" and throw it away. I need a bolted down steel box with padded compartments. I think a NOS M95ED stylus might have went to the landfill.. in unopened packaging. Been looking for it for months...

Really sad to hear of that happening, but I relate. For fear of such a thing or other disasters happening all of my audio stuff remains in my audio room under lock and key.

As for extra cartridges, the ones in rotation, of course, are mounted up to be used. Many of my other not in service "extras" are NOS and are in their original AT, Shure, Pickering or Ortofon boxes.

I have them all in the original boxes. Expensive moving coil cartridges come in fancy packaging, where they usually have some method to use the headshell screws to secure the cartridige in the middle of a large protected open space. You box up on of these things properly, and it is nearly impossible to do any damage to the stylus.

Yes. I am fortunate to have a small room that is mine for audio. I have small children (and cats) in the home so the door to that room remains locked at all times.

Guess I was very very lucky with two Siberian Husky's Siamese and other Cats and two Sons, that left my stuff alone over the years. No pushed in dust caps snagged cloth except for a few LP edges getting the claws. No problems.
