How Do You Use AK and Do You Miss Threads That You Might Like ?

I was wondering how people used AK? Do you just look at the current posts and reply to those ? Do you ever scan the various forums for interesting posts? Do you ever use the search facilities to find threads ? Do you just rely on the alerts to see if you have likes or replies ?

I'm just interested to see what members do.

Do members feel that some good threads get posted and recieve little attention?

Could things be improved so that good threads don't die out ?

It is what it is. Sometimes "good" ones die and "bad" ones thrive.
 
All of the above ... just not necessarily in the same order or priority.
Except on Tuesdays.
 
Typically, when I sign on I respond to my alerts first. Then if time permits, I'll go to "New Posts" rather than search specific forums as I feel this gives the best cross-section of what's happening on AK.

I find I'm missing a lot of good stuff sometimes, because the alerts don't seem to be consistently reliable and I don't really know what to do about that. It's frustrating when you find that a thread you've been following has carried on for several pages beyond your last notification. Also frustrating is when you find an older thread on an interesting topic that you never saw in the first place.

FWIW, I almost never view threads with a large number of replies, say over 50, save for jokes and recap threads, and very rarely FS threads as I'm usually broke. I certainly miss things now and then, but somehow life goes on without my input.
 
I'm always looking for new supply sources. The DIY folks are often very helpful.

As for the fate of threads, those threads that result from an unwillingness to use the "search forums" function get thrown into a pit in my basement, until I can find something useful to do with them.
 
If a thread falls in the internet, and no one is around to read it, does it make a point?

PS ... one thing that would maybe help a lot is if people got in the habit of adding tags when posting new threads. The search engine is a bit flaky as is, and every little bit helps. Going googling may be the way to go.

Reminds me of my oldest son when he was young. Finicky eater.

Dad: Why didn't you eat the delicious meal your mother prepared?

Son: I don't like it.

Dad: How do you know? You haven't tried it.

Son: If I liked it, I would have tried it.
