How much does the quality of the cartridge stylus affect the sound

As Az in post #2 put it, no amount of better cart will really make a difference with that antique phonograph. As car guys might guys put it... "it would be like putting a V8 in a Ford model T".

For its time, it was the "cutting-edge", compared to its predecessors.

Enjoy that old music maker for what's its worth.

I don't think he's talking about a real vintage Victrola. More likely one of these:

since I don't exactly trust any audio products from the last 10 years
Your logic for that stance? And I am not being an ass, I am assuming your here to learn.

Edit: I would save up an extra $100 and get something new from Flunace or U-Turn. I have had a Fluance in my system while working on my XA

Guess I lingered on the "record player", and took it as such. The "plastics" should have been caught in my web of thoughts...but missed this!

Def a horse of a different colour!

A look at that photo, is a replica of the past, but the sound intent would be sub-par with its existing design and innards. It is what it is!

Thanks for clarifying.

You could call it superstition grounded in a bit of logic, but I've always thought that Bluetooth lowers the audio quality of, well, anything really. also, I just like older stuff better. It feels built better, but that just might be me.

I would agree with stuff like your current turntable. And Bluetooth typically is lesser. But there is plenty of great new stuff being built.

I believe everyone here is misunderstanding what he's looking for, it's not a turntable, he wants a "record player" with an amp, speakers all built in so only one piece to replace his current model.

I completely agree with your statement. There are still great audio manufacturers out there like Yamaha, Polk, and others. The issue for me is cost. Why would I get a new 800 dollar amp when i can get something that’s 20 years old, almost as good, and a whole lot cheaper?

With current pricing of vintage equipment, that is one of the myths of this Hobby.

Because you may to have to recap that thing, resolder it, deoxit the pots and switches, repair it. Otherwise you are correct. I often buy old stuff from Ebay.

Right. Since this is the Turntable section and not the Tape section, I would like to get this back on topic with another question:
In your opinion, what is the best turntable you have owned, and why?

Out of the five I currently have the Well Tempered Lab Turntable would be at the top. As for why I suggest doing some research right here at AK.
