How much oil for reel to reel motors? (TEAC)

How much oil for TEAC A-1250 reel to reel motors? I doubt this machine has been used for decades. I just got it, no history on it, it doesn't appear to have been services based on the dust.

Each motor has two oil dropper tubes sticking out the top.

The instruction manual recommends 1 CC of oil to each tube for every 1000 hrs of play.


QUESTION:
I Googled 1 CC and it says equivalent to 20 drops. That seems like an awful lot of oil. And it would be 2x that amount per motor because there are 2 oil tubes per motor.

Does that seem like a lot of oil to anyone else?

Before I looked it up I was planning on maybe 3 drops per tube. I always heard don't over oil things.

Hi Mark,

with my experience of such instructions, you are not applying the oil to the bearing direct. You are adding it to a circular felt pad which acts as a reservoir. In this case 1 CC is not much!!! Do as prescribed!! 3 drops will not even wet the felt surrounding the hole!!!

Also as the oil feed is achieved by "creep" from the felt pad, the oil may take some time to get to the bearings in the first place.

Thanks so much! I've added more, letting it make its way down the tube and then I'll top it off at 20 drops.
