How Much???

Guys, guys, guys. You need to get out more.

I'm assuming most of you, even if you're not fishermen, know what a fishing lure looks like. Now imagine the small cardboard box a lure might come in.

There are collectors of early fishing lures. Rabid collectors. Obsessed collectors.

I have seen an empty cardboard box that a lure came in sell, on eBay, for over $1,500. With dozens of bidders.

It's mind-boggling.

My wife is a serious, big-time Barbie collector. There are certain pairs of Barbie doll shoes, (you know, the little tiny plastic shoes??) that fetch $700.

There's no explaining us collectors!

Very good point!

I've done very well selling some of my vintage ammo boxes, Fisherdude describes the voracity of some collectors' appetites very accurately.

How much is the final piece that completes a collection worth?

When my dad and I were at an old Ford Fairlane show a few years back, there was a guy parked a few spaces over from our '62 Fairlane... he had a fully restored '67 Ranchero. The last piece he needed to complete the ground-up restoration was the gas cap (which is specific to that one model for that one year) and it cost him $150. The guy balked at that... and the seller said, "Well, do you want it or not?" And that's the story of the $150 gas cap.
