How old were you when you got your first Hi-Fi?

A real name brand, not a all in one "unsound design" like system that a HS friend sold me for $20.00 in 1970, would be a unremembered model Kenwood cap coupled receiver bought cheaply used with one channel output stage blown sometime in 1974~5.
That would put my age at 19 or 20 yrs. old at that time.

20, in 1968
bought an Onkyo am/fm/tt on top while stationed in Okinawa tdy. dont remember the bookshelf speakers brand at the time. I still have the Onkyo up in the attic lol...
I was very happy with ruining my record collection on that cheesy tt until I purchased my Pioneer sx780 PD 4010 cd and Paradigm speakers 10 yrs later. technics slb-20 tt.

"Hifi" to me at the time. My "own" stereo. Mom gave it to me for Christmas in 1995 I'm guessing, so I would have been 12. Sony HCD-F100, 51 disc changer, dual cassette decks, AM/FM tuner. I had more than one of my friends' parents comment that the little bookshelf system beat out their vintage towers. Sounded really good to me at the time. In college and until I got married I plugged my TV into it for sound enhancement. Goodwilled it when I got married in '07 and we were combining households. "Who listens to cassettes or CD's anymore?" Wish I still had it, if only for the nostalgia. Would make a good garage system.
