How to keep dust out of a fan cooled amplifier?

Just got some of these pc type dust filters. Trying them out. Much more elegant than cutting filter media to size then tapeing it into place.

This method was so inexpensive, I didn`t even bother washing the old, but just cut and replaced with new.

Once cut to size, how do you adhere it to its installed location?

Depends..
Sometimes it is cut to fit into a existing U channel frame that has a included metal or plastic brace to hold the media in place..

Other times it is lightly glued with a bead of some kind of adhesive(contact cement), if it`s a upgrade/mod to a never been filtered before fan based forced air cooling system.

One has to take in consideration that adding filter media, in it`s self can restrict the previous/original CFM air flow, and can cause elevated internal equipment temperatures, not including the need to keep an eye on the filter`s condition doing it`s job(how clogged/loaded it becomes, and how often)

I have in the past when retro fitting(rigging) filter media, & have used chicken wire, X crossed coat hanger/electric fence wire, hardware cloth, using the fans mounting screws, with sized washers added to help secure the hardware cloth, or the X crossed coat hanger wire.
I`m not sure if window screen would be a good idea, as it might be too restrictive in combination with the added filter media, unless the original fan CFM was increased with a upgraded replacement..
 
Well fan companies sell screens that will capture the big boulders, but for dust you need a Semi porous foam, that you will have to remove and wash out periodically depending on where you live. I removed my old windows and installed Hurd dual pain sealed windows and doors for the patio and access to the back yard. I installed insulated metal Pella doors everywhere else with storm doors In addition. Then out came the swamp cooler and in went the HVAC with carbon and electrostatic filters by Carrier and Sons. I clean my hifi fan filters monthly in the winter, but bi weekly in the Spring and summer when we have our famous West Texas sand storms when you are lucky of you can see 500 yards. Sometimes less less than 200. If you want an experience drive around Wilcox, Tucson and Phoenix when the wind blows. Amarillo and Lubbock in the Panhandle are no fun either.
 
For the foam media, I just use the hook side of velcro. attach the velcro to the unit and just push the foam filter to it. I have 2 cut to size. When one is dirty, I wash it and let it dry while using the 2nd one. I did this with my computer cases as well.
