how to pack a turntable correctly

bought this systemdek II from aker dennismiller here in ak's barter town. yes there are great deals and great sellers there so subscribe now!. anywho he really rose to the task on this one. packed far better than factory. all the parts shrinkwraped and firmly locked in place. the tt could not have been more cared for thanks my friend. here are some pics for future ref.

remember if the packing out weighs the item your on thr right track. also great packing aint cheap so dont forget when your buying paying a seller for good packing is just as important as ins.

It's not a bargain, if the platter comes loose in transit and mashes the rest of the machine into little, tiny pieces. If buying a table from somebody on CL or 'bay, be sure to learn for sure if the person has a clue about how to pack a turntable. You might have to tutor the seller, or risk your bargain becoming a box of parts.

Wise words. I have been interested in the past to buy certain turntables to find the seller does not know to to pack for postage.Needless to say I did'nt buy. This is my first question for the seller.:thmbsp:

Plastic wrap, used liberally, is incredibly useful stuff for packaging fragile items like that. I also see styrofoam walls and double boxes. Very good. :thmbsp:

My dad sent me TWO turntables in one box once, packed (literally) with towels and t-shirts. They got here undamaged, it was unbelievable. I forgive him.

I tried to tutor a seller years ago on how to pack a Sony TT I bought from him. Pictures, links, etc. He didn't remove the platter as specified and pack in a separate box (clean pizza box works fine.) It was left in place. The tinkling sounds as the UPS guy was carrying the box to the porch was the first indication of trouble.

The dancing platter had knocked all four corners of the dustcover out, cracked the top of it in muliple places, and turned the tonearm base into a leaning tower of trash.

Packing it I can figure out,but what I,and a lot of other people need is to learn how to take a turntable apart properly before you pack it.
