How to properly transfer flacs onto MS750

I just joined B&W's music club. They allow you to download 24bit flacs. I always imported my music onto the MS750 just by popping in the CD.

How do I properly import the flacs onto the MS750. I am very computer literate, but want to make sure I copy to the right place AND ensure it is in the index along with album art.


PS - Can the MS750 handle 24bit flac?

The MS750 can't play 24bit FLAC files. :sigh:

To transfer files into the MS750 or to do a backup (highly recommended) you need to "map a network drive" with your computer. The MS750 drive name is the name that was entered in the "server settings" menu on the MS750. For example: if you entered the name "MS750" for your MS750, you would map a network drive like this to add music to the MS750: \\MS750\import and to do a backup you would map this drive: \\MS750\content.

Once you have the MS750 drives mapped you just drag and drop or copy and paste as you normally would to transfer files. Let me know if you need more detailed instructions on this.

No support for 24bit though?...I would have thought they would have done that for now.


I guess I would have been better off with a MacBook not only financially, but sound wise as well. Very disappointing.
 
The more I think about this the more angry I get that the MS750 can't process 24bit.

I paid top dollar for the unit, as I was told it was upgradeable. Anyone know if there are plans for it to handle it in the future?

Anyone have a link on where to send complaints?
 
hmmmm...I'm new to macs (as in non-pc) and can't seem to figure out how to map a network drive for the MS750.

Has anyone using Mac OS X successfully done this?
 
In Finder go to "Go"
the connect to server...
the in server address type smb://and the IP address for the MS750
It will show you five folcers, content, import, pictures, etc.
click on import and it will mount
then you can copy files there as in any other disk

Sorry for so many questions....

I guess each album I copy to the import folder has to have it's own folder? I downloaded some zip files containing all of the flacs and album art. I guess it just needs to be uncompressed to it's folder and copied, right?

...or is the album info actually within the flac file, which means no need for the folder for each album?
 
To transfer music to the MS750 it is best to have each CD in a folder named for the CD title. If the music is not in a folder it could put each song as a title on the MS750. This is the "tag" info which could be in the files as they are downloaded or it could be changed when it is imported to the MS750.

One thing to be careful of is importing a folder with the artists name on it with sub folders of CD titles. Here is the problem: lets say you have 10 Miles Davis CDs on your MS750, now lets say you have a folder on your computer named Miles Davis with 2 CDs in it. If you import the folder "Miles Davis" to your MS750 it will overwrite the folder on the MS750 and you will loose the 10 Miles Davis CDs that were on your MS750.

Unless I'm doing a full restore from my backup, I always import the CDs to my MS750 one at a time.

Unfortunately, I've run into some trouble. I have some flacs of live shows that aren't officially released. I've transfered them to the import folder, but they aren't showing up!

I tried importing them in a folder of the band name...

band name folder->flacs

I tried importing them in a folder of the band name with a subfolder of the album name...

band name folder->album name sub folder->flacs

I tried just having the album name...

album name folder-> flacs



I even tried just importing a single flac into the import folder. This is the only method that showed anything, but it just stayed put in the 'import' folder.



What the heck am I doing wrong here?
 
The MS750 does not care if the flac file is an official release or not. As long as the flac file is the correct file type for the MS750 it will play it.

There are different flac file types (bit rate, resolution...), The MS750 will not play every flac file type. It sounds like your flacs of live shows are not compatible with the MS750.
 
Weird. Out of curiousity, I looked at the bit rate of the files. Both concerts are strait from the mixerboard, but theirs flacs are ranging from 439-900kbps. Not sure why there would be different bit rates for the same concert unless someone messed with them after wards.

What a pain! Oh well, at least I am getting god quality sound of music I would never hear otherwise from my favorite band.
 
I also had some flac files with weird bit rates, none of these worked on my MS750. I don't know, I guess it's just the software used in making the files.

Like you said, just burn it to a CD and put it on the MS750 that way.
