How to Remove Phase Tech "Variable Axis Tweeter"?

I would love to rescue these tweeters and get them to someone who wants them but I can't figure out how to get the dang things off!

It seems pretty obvious that the plastic cap should come off and reveal the screw heads that hold the housing to the cabinet but they don't seem to twist off. And no, there is not a little screw inside the cutout notch. I've even looked inside there with a flashlight and all I see is the other inside of the plastic cap.

Thanks DB... They have not been able to help. These pre-date the new Phase Tech engineers.

That's too bad. It's hard to believe that they don't have some sort of service manual to refer to. Odd that they still service 20 year old speakers like my PC80s.

They'll sell me replacements drivers no problem. But fixing these and removing the old tweeters has stumped them. They won't touch the amplifiers and no longer have replacements. I just thought that since the "Variable Axis" tweeter is on so many different models that someone would know but maybe these PC-500s are different.

OMG, thank you so much for posting this. I have a pair of PC100's that I just picked up and have been staring at the tweeters for the last hour trying to figure out how to get them out.

It's crazy that this is still a valuable post! I just ordered a replacement tweeter for my pc-100's and was wondering how to get the old one out! It's hard to believe that you can still get genuine replacement tweeters, midrange and woofers for these 30+ year old speakers! I have them checking on the foam tweeter surround, and it looks like I'll even be able to replace those.

They made me the tweeter foam blocks to order. IIRC it took a couple weeks, but they were like "yeah, no big deal".

Any tips on how to get a new tweeter into the plastic housing? The old one pushed out, but I haven't had any luck getting the new one in! I tried heating the housing, putting a touch of silicon lube on it and nothing. I'm thinking of trying to use a giant washer centered on the dome and pushing, but it seems a little risky.

I ended up using the outside of a Greenlee hole punch. It set on the outside edge of the tweeter. I put the speaker on its back, set the tweeter in place and pushed on the Greenlee shell. I had to put all my weight onto it, but it finally popped in.
