How to remove TU-217/AU-317 knobs??

The tuning knob on my "new" TU-217 and the volume knob on my original AU-317 seem to come off the same way, but I can't figure it how.

I can see that there is a set screw of some kind, but no tool that I've tried will grab it and let me loosen it. I know the AU-317's knob has never been removed, so it can't be stripped. Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks in advance!

You need either a 1.5 or 2.0 mm alen (hex) wrench. They are little L shaped tools with a six sided cross section. They usually come in sets with a range of sizes. Any good hardware store will have sets of them. Great hardware stores will sell them individually.

Thanks very much! The 1.5 mm allen wrench did the trick. I'd tried my regular allen wrenches, but none fit because I'd forgotten about the metric part. Thanks again.

Hi Pete

I managed to unscrew the setscrew of the volume knob on the 317 but its still stuck fast!! are there 2 screws by any chance?

thanks

I don't think there are two but if so, you should see two access holes. Shoot some wd40 into the screw hole and give it a few minutes to soak in. That should loosen it.

thanks pulled the knob out finally!! had to disassemble the entire volume controller to pull it out. it was oxidisation which made it stuck. so sanded down both the shaft and the knob. luckily the VC is built to last and is solid

cheers
