Hello good people, I'm having an issue with an arcing power switch in my Philips 22-AH-686 receiver. I thought initially that I had dirty switches / pots but a thorough cleaning did nothing to help. I am fairly sure that the problem is the power switch. I will also test the output transistors but for now I was looking for some advice on how to deal with it? I have looked for a replacement but as you can imagine I've been unsuccessful.

The quickest solution is a switchable power strip. I use them on all my stereo systems and plug in the CD changer, Cassete changer and turntable to save all those switches. This also allows me to un plug the power strip when not in use, to lesson the chance of a power surge or lighting strike damaging all my audio gear. No problems for 30 plus years.

I can't really add anything to the suggestions above.
But does anyone else find that illustration of the "Silver Conductive Grease 8463" in post #2 a bit disturbing? Lol, Strikes me as a really really bad idea! Almost to the point that it HAS to be a joke!

Watch the video that accompanies the pic and you'll see how he explains where to apply the grease.
It should work well when applied correctly.

I admit I didn't watch the video. I have no doubt it is a good product with many uses in audio repair. But the one they show in the photo/illustration for the product isn't one of them!

Can you show us a picture of the switch?
The usual fix is to open it up, polish the contacts, and then do the triac mod to take the stress off it.

With the receiver switch closed, the switch on the switchable power strip will take the sparking when switching on, thus saving wear and tear on the receiver switch. No stubber cap needed. Switching power strips are the sacrifcal lamb, cheap and expendable. Has anyone had to find a receiver switch and install it?

Look up the triac solid state snubberless switch. It’s under something like “5 minutes $5.00 and unobtanium power switch”.
