How to Replace the stylus?

hi,


I have a Curtis mathis VM Sn:857118 1232183 (see pic)

I want to replace the stylus with a new Sonotone: 8ta

Do I just rotate the handle, and then pull it out sideways ? Or do i need to remove the cartridge ? This is pretty old and I don't want to damage it.

Sorry I know that I did that several times as a kid but I honestly don’t remember how. Hopefully someone else will chime in soon.

This is a different manufacturer but I believe it should be similar to your model. It shows doing it with the cartridge removed but it can also be done with the cartridge mounted. You basically want to unsnap the back end of the needle from under the clip as shown in the video.

The stylus should be left laying against the cartridge instead of rotated half way because you could stress the flat spring while removing the stylus. If the spring is made well, you probably won't but some aren't really heat-treated well and could end up not holding the stylus in sufficiently.
