You can’t use phono inputs for playing any high level device: cassette, cd, dvd, laserdisc, basically any device that’s not a record player.

Don't you dare!... but since you brought it up, is the 630 better or more desirable than a 530 or 570?
It looks like the problem was solved with the U24, but for the sake of completeness, I don't think the above question was answered. You can split the tape monitor "out" with Y splitter cables all you want to feed all of the tape decks for recording. The tape monitor "in" cannot be safely split; however, you can use any input you want to play back any tape deck. The tape monitor input is useful when you have a 3-head deck because it allows you to listen to what the recorded tape sounds like while it's recording (and to flip back to the original signal for comparison). But for just playback, any input like "Aux" will work. Unfortunately, vintage receivers typically don't have that many inputs, but the single 8 or 4 RCA switch posted would work fine for playback.

Well, the U-24 has 3 phono inputs, the SX-1250 has 2 phono preamp inputs, and I unless Jeff gets to me, I won't be adding a turntable soon.
As for the 8-track, you may not have noticed what's in my altar to Pioneer, posted above. Heh heh:
Hard to find decent blank 8-track tapes that aren't falling apart. I think half of these or more are garbage. I hope the Maxells are okay.

And I would drag a PLC-590 into that mix as well. (Not a PL-590!)Desirability is very subjective. While the 630 was the consumer pinnacle (in the US, setting aside the Exclusive series, the P3) some prefer the looks of the 570 or 590.
Me, I love my 630.
However, if pressed, my bucket list TT would be their PL-50L ii. (There are also 70 and 90 versions, but hey, I’m not greedy.)
